Michael Moore, Pathetic!
I hadn’t heard it, myself, until it was talked about (derided) at the Cafe, but Michael Moore has just shown what kind of a class act he is with his comment, “Gustav is proof that there is a God in Heaven.”
He was, of course, expressing his personal delight that a killer hurricane descending on our (American) south coast, and the still devastated New Orleans, was effectively disrupting the Republican Convention. Of course, I doubt the arrival of Jesus Christ on a white horse riding the clouds of Gustav would serve as “proof that there is a God” for him! Rather, for me, Gustav and Michael’s selfish delight in the horrendous disaster that hurricane will wreak upon the lives of millions of people and the US and local economies is proof there is no God, or Godliness, or even human decency in Michael Moore!
It’s almost beyond my understanding how even his pathetically fevered partisan brain could find pleasure in Gustav. How can someone claim to really care about “the people” , as he does in his recent film career, yet so cavalierly rejoice in their devastation because it gains some small political score for his side? It’s so Stalinesque! But so symptomatic of the political partisanship that infects many in our society today!
I thought to go see what others might have said about Moore’s remarks and attitudes so googled his name. The first thing I found was a political blog called “Trail Blazers blog“, and the very first comment was:
“I agree completely with Michael Moore. What better way to refocus the nation’s attention on the stupidity and incompetence the nation has had to suffer under the Republicans. Gee, God wasn’t on their side after all, was he?”
I so wanted to click on the “report as objectionable”! So much, in fact, I actually did! And when asked what I thought was objectionable about it, I simply said that “if you don’t know, then that’s your problem.”
I was at least glad to find, as time went on, the next comments to follow the first included:
The only reason that we give this guy any press coverage at all is because he such an empty-headed idiot. He contributes absolutely nothing to the common good. I guess he does provide a laugh or two at his absolute stupidity.
It is incredicably disgusting and shows the shallowness of Michael Moore to think that GOD plans to devastate the coast to punish republicans. To follow up his comment that he hoped no one would get hurt just shows what a stupid statement it was. John McCain has more class in his little finger than Moore is capable of. McCain by the activities of the convention is planning to be an American not a republican. On the other hand Moore is blinded by politics.
A pox on any rightwing or liberal who makes these asinine remarks. This is a serious crisis affecting real people.
It is laughable that Michael Moore announced God’s existence BECAUSE he thinks Gustav is going to mess up GOP’s convention. — FYI, God blesses. He does not curse. Satan does the cursing. I think Michale Moore should say that he believes in Satan.
and so on! Indeed, they made me feel a lot better than I was, at the time, about my fellow citizens, and pretty much finished writing my post for me, here.
You know, there really is a sickness plaguing much of the body politic, nowadays. It is so similar to the way people were during the Third Reich, the land of Stalin, the way of the Jihadists, even the partisans of Iraq who could do such horrific things to their neighbors. We have a dire need to get rid of the partisan fever burning our brains, the (seems so trite, this next term) demonizing of whomever disagrees or is not a member of our own “party”. We really do!
Postscript: I’m sorry, but shortly after I finished this I went back to the “Trail Blazers” to close the window and just as I was about to click the “X”, I thought to scroll down through some more comments. Gal Friday had submitted one that really won my “amen!”:
Michael Moore is proof that God has a sense of humor. The fact that the rest of us have to live on a planet with Mr. Moore causes me to question God’s mercy, though.
